THE BANKER OF ZILCHY
The Gooplite Son
The Gooplite Son
R-Toz Kyzba was born in 4964 to father R-Fenj and mother R-Sispa. In 4970 R-Fenj accepted the position of Planet Ambassador to RoCraudo (OKg RS P4) of the six-planet Ro System and moved his family to the Mujand Embassy in the RoCraudo capital city of Onnetu. R-Sispa home-taught R-Toz due to xenophobic laws put in place by the Gooplites. The Gooplites, whose appearance resembled cake shavings covered with a slimy substance, were the dominant species on Ro-Craudo III. (See the Teflinite definition to understand why anyone would want to be near such creatures.)
R-Toz mastered his learnings easily which gave him time to venture out to the Gooplite community. It was there one day at a Gooplite park, that R-Toz greated an aged Gooplite named, Exfrano Draj walking near a pond feeding the Tobricfish. Exfrano rudely ignored R-Toz.
Despite this coarse response from the old Gooplite, R-Toz continued a conversation. "The Tobricfish breath through their eyelids and eat bubbles for fun," the young R-Toz said.
Exfrano was annoid. He turned to the young alien and scowled. "I don't care for Naivelings. Go away!" Exfrano Pfted.
R-Toz continued to speak even after Exfrano expressed his displeasure with Naivelings. "The strangest sea creature I ever heard of is the Two Headed Shog which is mostly mythical, well because no one has really seen one. Not in hundreds of years anyway. On my planet, of course."
Exfrano rolled his eyes as the boy continued blabbing. Exfrano Draj was a wealthy old Goop who lived alone but in truth was eager to have a friend, even if that friend was from Blissdane Naïve.
"What do you do?" asked R-Toz.
"I feed Tobricfish and make them fat and then eat them!" This made R-Toz laugh and Exfrano laughed as well.
"I mean when you were not old," R-Toz said.
This made Exfrano chuckle. "Yes, when I was not old." Exfrano reminisced momentarily. He came back to the present and looked at the young Naiveling. "I was a stock man. I knew a good company when I saw its numbers and made my living doing that."
"I don't understand," R-Toz said.
"No, of course you wouldn't," Exfrano said under his breath. He could see that R-Toz had a inquisitive mind and wanted to learn. Exfrano decided to share information with the young boy. "I played the stock markets on several planets and was very good at buying low and selling high."
R-Toz frowned. "Stocks. That's paper, right?" he asked.
"Well, paper, yes but not just any paper. It is a financial promise of sorts," said Exfrano, trying to keep it simple for the youngster.
"Promise of what?"
Exfrano finished feeding the fish and started to walk. R-Toz followed him. "A company askes you for money so that they can do business or improve their business and in return as the company increases its profits the stock you buy from them increases in value. And you then sell the stock or paper, for more money than you payed for it. But it doesn't always work that way. Sometimes you lose. Which is why you must understand the company before you buy."
Exfrano could see that R-Toz was interested.
"Can I learn to make money with paper?"
"Stocks, you smelly Naiveling!"

Exfrano decided he would help R-Toz learn his tricks. Exfrano asked the young R-Toz how much he had to invest. R-Toz returned the next day with 10,000 Zilchy, which surprised Exfrano but didn’t ask too many questions. R-Toz then listened and learned as concepts were explained to him. After a day of lessons R-Toz was confident to begin investing on his own in The Dobit Stock Exchange of the Mujand Republic.
When his parents discovered the missing funds they went straight to Toz. He confessed the theft and returned the 10,000 Zilchy immediately, with interest. When they questioned Toz about the gains he confessed the entire story. He made 48,000 Zilchy off the initial 10,000. His parents were surprised and decided to let him keep his gains, as long he saved the funds for his higher learning, which he did, choosing Economics as his focus.
R-Toz started his career working for Pivtal, Crad & co. as a stockbroker. He did very well and then moved on to The Zilchy Bank Company and quickly climbed through the ranks until he was voted onto the board of directors. He watched over the creation of The Early American Writers series.
